What happened to the actors of 'The Goonies': this is how they have changed 40 years after the movie
The very young actors continued participating in other audiovisual projects after the success of that 80s phenomenon.
2 August, 2024 12:41The decade of the 80s left us with some truly emblematic and entertaining movies. One of them was The Goonies, an adventure film directed by Richard Donner (Superman, 1978) that was a phenomenon and is now considered one of the most iconic movies of the genre.
Released in 1985, The Goonies follows a group of kids called the Goonies who try to save their homes from the real estate crisis by searching for the treasure of the legendary pirate One-Eyed Willy. However, the journey won't be easy, as they have a group of criminals hot on their trail also searching for the treasure.
The film originated from an original story by Steven Spielberg and its screenplay was adapted by Chris Columbus (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone). Its theatrical release was a huge success partly due to its premise, but also to the wonderful ensemble of young actors it had. A stellar cast formed by child stars like Josh Brolin, Ke Huy Quan, Sean Astin, Corey Feldman and Martha Plimpton, among others, who managed the success in different ways, carving their careers in the entertainment world with other great projects. Let's remember what happened to them after The Goonies.
Sean Astin
Known for playing the young Mikey Walsh in the film, Sean Astin has mentioned in some interviews that he has very good memories of filming The Goonies. "I kept one of the original maps. I had one of the inhalers for the character's asthma," he said.
The actor continued starring in movies after that success, with roles in films like Rudy (1993) or the unforgettable hobbit Samwise Gamgee in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Additionally, he was recently seen in the second season of Stranger Things.
Josh Brolin
Like some of his castmates, Josh Brolin also leveraged the success of The Goonies to boost his acting career, and although he didn't replicate the success of that movie, he did land roles in well-known films like No Country for Old Men (2007), W. (2008), Inherent Vice (2015) or Hail, Caesar! (2016). He even received An Oscar nomination for Milk (2008).
Furthermore, Brolin also took part in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the villain Thanos and recently starred in the successful Dune saga.
From the filming of The Goonies, he remembers that "I had a great time," but also admitted that "it was the worst movie I could have done to be the first one I did."
Corey Feldman
Corey Feldman's case was slightly different, as he was already a child star in Hollywood before playing Mouth in The Goonies. However, his post-Go...
