Netflix has just released a series from the creator of 'Celda 211': a thriller with real background that is reminiscent of 'Fariña'
Spanish fiction delves into the universe of drug trafficking in Galicia to narrate a story of impossible love.
21 June, 2024 12:02Leaving behind the emotional hangover after the end of the season of Los Bridgerton, Netflix has just released Clanes, a Spanish series that has all the ingredients and the spirit of other great productions like Fariña.
This thriller with seven episodes is led by Clara Lago and Tamar Novas and based on real events. The platform itself describes it as a "story of revenge turned into impossible love and inspired by a real estuary".
In Clanes, we follow a new lawyer who arrives to settle in the small town of Cambados. Her name is Ana (Clara Lago) and her presence doesn't go unnoticed by anyone, including Daniel (Tamar Novas), son of an important drug trafficker and visible leader of the "Padín clan" while his father, the real leader, remains in prison.
Ana, with extensive experience in one of the best law firms in Madrid, has decided to start over in Cambados with the intention of settling scores with her past. Here, as the official synopsis says, "this seemingly impossible love story begins".
The production company responsible for the project is Vaca Films, founded by Emma Lustres and Borja Pena in 2003, whose productions have won dozens of Goya Awards and other important mentions.
Among Vaca Films' most successful titles are Celda 211, El Niño, Cien años de perdón, El Desconocido, Quien a hierro mata or Hasta el Cielo.
They have also produced the first season of La Unidad, a series from Movistar Plus+ and the Netflix series El desorden que dejas, created by Carlos Montero, and Hasta el cielo: La serie, a continuation of the film created by Jorge Guerricaechevarría and Daniel Calparsoro and directed by Calparsoro. Their latest releases have been the original Netflix movie Infiesto, the thriller El Correo and the family movie Salta.
Alongside Clara Lago (El Vecino, Ocho apellidos vascos) and Tamar Novas (El desorden que dejas, A 1000 kilómetros de la Navidad) complete the cast Xosé Antonio Touriñán (Cuñados), Chechu Salgado (Las leyes de la frontera), Melania Cruz (Malencolía), Miguel de Lira (Cuñados), Francesc Garrido (Sé quién eres), Diego Anido (As Bestas) and María Pujalte (Los misterios de Laura).
Other Spanish series on Netflix
Recently, the platform has also premiered Express, which debuted in 2022 as the first original production in Spain for Starzplay (now Lionsgate+). The series, created by Iván Escobar and Antonio Sánchez, originally had only one season, but now Netflix is giving it a second chance with the release of the second season.
It tells the story of a criminal psychologist named Bárbara (Maggie Civantos) and her family, after becoming a victim of an express kidnapping. After this traumatic experience, the protagonist decides to create a team dedicated to investigating and combating cases similar to hers with the aim of understanding why she became a victim and discovering the people who shattered her life.
